Growing Concepts of Multi Unit Operators


Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Phoenix, AZ-based FEZ has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4, with the addition of a new concept called Metropolis (33% company growth).  Other concepts are Bliss Rebar (1), Fez (1), and Switch Restaurant Bar (1).  The concepts are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20+ per person check average.  Multiple types of cuisines are offered.  The restaurants have full bar and seat about 150.  Catering and online ordering options are available.  All locations are in AZ.

Montgomery, AL-based CHAPPY\’S DELI (founded 1989) has increased by 1 unit, from 4 to 5 (25% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving American cuisine.  Per person price range is $6-$15+.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for around 150.  Catering, delivery and online ordering are available.  All locations are in AL.

Rockville Centre, NY-based GEORGE MARTIN GROUP (founded 1989) has increased by 1 unit, from 5 to 6 (20% growth), adding a new concept called GM Burger Bar.  Other concepts are called George Martin-the Original (1), Grillfire (3), and Strip Steak (1).  The concepts are mostly upscale steakhouses, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $15-$50+.  The restaurants have full bar service and seating for about 125.  Catering and banquet facilities are available.  Trading areas are MD and NY.

CRABBY JOE\’S of Mississauga, ON (founded 1996) has increased by 2 units, from 39 to 41 (5% growth). These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 100.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$15+. Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in ON.

COFFEE CULTURE based in Mississauga, ON has increased by 8 units, from 61 to 69 (13% growth).  These are quick serve coffee shops open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in NY, ON and PA.  

CHILI\’S GRILL & BAR of Dallas, TX (founded 1975) has increased by 11 units, from 1536 to 1547 (1% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $8-$20+.  Catering is offered.  Locations are in AB, AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, SK, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT,WA,  WI, WV and WY.

Denver, CO-based SMILING MOOSE DELI (founded 2003) has increased by 3 units, from 19 to 22 (16% growth) and entered into OH and SD.  The restaurants are family/casual sandwich shops, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $6-$15+, with seating for about 30.  Catering and online ordering are available.  Trading areas are CO, IN, MT, ND, OH, SD, TX, WI, and WY.  Franchising is available.

Robinson, TX-based BUSH\’S CHICKEN (founded 1996) has increased by 3 units, from 49 to 52 (6% growth).  This quick serve chicken concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Units seat about 30.  Catering and drive-thru services are available.  Locations are franchised and located in TX.  We last featured this concept on 3/12/13 (7% growth).

Toronto, ON-based HERO CERTIFIED BURGERS (founded 2003) has increased by 11 units for the Hero concept, from 40 to 51 (28% concept growth).  The company also operates an 8 unit concept called Lettieri Espresso & Bar.  Overall company increase was from 48 to 59 (23% company growth).  These fast casual burger restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person check average.  The Lettieri stores are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving coffee and sandwiches.  Average seating at both concepts is for around 30.  All locations are franchised and trade in ON.  We last wrote about this company on 3/19/13 (20% growth).  

CHEESECAKE FACTORY based in Calabasas Hills, CA (founded 1972) has increased by 19 units for Cheesecake Factory, from 158 to 177 (12% concept growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 450.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $10-$30+.  Catering and banquet services are offered.  Other company concepts are Grand Lux Café (11) and Rocksugar Pan Asian Kitchen (1).  Overall company increase was from 173 to 189 (9% company growth) due to a decrease for Grand Lux Cafe from 14 to 11.  Locations are in AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MN, MO, NC, NE, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA and WI.  We last reported on this concept on 10/9/12 (5% growth).
