Growing Concepts of Multi Unit Operators

Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Long Beach, CA-based SUPER MEX RESTAURANT (founded 1974) has increased by 1 unit, from 14 to 15 (7% growth).  This family/casual Mexican concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar service and seating for about 100.  Catering and online ordering are available.  Locations are in CA and NV.

Dallas, TX-based MAGGIANO\’S LITTLE ITALY (founded 1991) has increased by 5 units, from 44 to 49 (11% growth) and entered into AZ and MD.  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $10-$30+.  Locations have full bar service and average seating for about 300.  Catering and banquet services are available.  Trading areas are AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, MA, MD, MI, MO, NC, NJ, NV, OH, PA, TN, TX, VA, WA and WI.  Maggiano’s is a subsidiary of Brinker International.

Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

Gaithersburg, MD-based GLORY DAYS GRILL (founded 1996) has increased by 5 units, from 18 to 23 (28% growth) and entered into FL.  This family/casual sports bar concept is open for lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20+ per person check average.  Average seating is for about 225.  Catering and private party services are available.  Trading areas are FL, MD, VA and WV.  Three of the restaurants are franchised.  Plans are to open 3 more franchises as well as 3 more corporate locations in 2015.

Eugene, OR-based CAFE YUMM (founded 1997) has increased by 2 units, from 14 to 16 (14% growth).  This fast casual sandwich cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Locations serve beer and wine and average seating is for about 90.  Catering is available.  The restaurants are franchised and trade in OR and WA.

Weatherford, TX-based CHICKEN EXPRESS (founded 1988) has increased by 18 units, from 189 to 207 (10% growth).  The restaurants are quick serve, open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Locations have seating for about 40 and offer catering and drive-thru services.  Trading areas are AR, GA, LA, OK and TX.  We last wrote about this concept on 10/8/13 (2% growth).

Plano, TX-based ZOE\’S KITCHEN (founded 1995) has increased by 24 units, from 120 to 144 (20% growth).  This is a fast casual Mediterranean concept, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $6-$15+, with beer and wine service at select locations.  Seating is for about 60.  Catering is available.  Locations are trading in AL, AZ, FL, GA, KY, LA, MD, NC, NJ, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX and VA.  We featured this concept on 10/22/13 (26% growth) and again on 4/8/14 (38% growth).
