Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Duluth, MN-based GRANDMA\’S RESTAURANTS (founded 1976) has increased by 1 unit for the Grandma’s Saloon & Grill concept, from 2 to 3 (50% concept growth).  The company also operates Bellisio\’s Wine Bar (1) Grandma\’s Sports Garden Bar & Grill (1), and Little Angie\’s Cantina & Grill (1).  Overall company increase was from 5 to 6 (20% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual concepts, open for lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30+ per person check average.  Cuisine is mostly American.  Catering and banquet services are available.  The restaurants have full bar service and seating for about 200.  All locations are in MN.

San Francisco, CA-based PLUTO\’S FRESH FOODS (founded 1995) has increased by 1 unit, from 8 to 9 (13% growth).  The restaurants are fast casual, serving American cuisine.  Per person price range is $4-$12, serving beer and wine.  Average seating is for around 150.  Catering service is available.  All the restaurants are in CA.

Greenwood Village, CO-based LAMAR\’S DONUTS (founded 1960) has increased by 1 unit, from 27 to 28 (4% growth).  These quick serve donut shops are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner hours, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Units have limited seating and offer catering and online ordering options.  Locations are franchised and trade in AL, AZ, CO, KS, MO, and NE.

Weatherford, TX-based CHICKEN EXPRESS (founded 1988) has increased by 3 units, from 186 to 189 (2% growth).  This is a quick serve concept, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $4-$12+.  Units have seating for about 40 and offer drive-thru and catering services.  All locations are franchised and trade in AR, GA, LA, OK, and TX.

Fraser, MI-based THE ORIGINAL BUSCEMIS (founded 1976) has increased by 5 units, from 38 to 43 (13% growth) and entered into FL.  The restaurants are quick serve pizzerias, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $4-$12+, serving beer and wine and seating about 50.  Catering and delivery are available.  All locations are franchised and trade in FL and MI.

HAL SMITH RESTAURANT GROUP of Norman, OK (founded 1992) has increased by 3 units, from 56 to 59 (5% growth) adding new concepts called Hollie’s and The Garage Burgers & Beer (2 units).  Other company concepts are Charleston\’s Restaurant (15), Hefner Grill (1), Krispy Kreme (7), Louie\’s Grill & Bar (17), Mahogany Prime Steakhouse (3), Mama Roja Mexican Kitchen (1), Redrock Canyon Grill (3), Ted\’s Café Escondido (5), Toby Keith\’s I Love This Bar & Grill (3) and Upper Crust Pizza (1).  Most locations tend to be family casual with full bar and seating for around 250.  Per person check average is around $8-$20.  Catering and banquet services are available.  Locations are in AL, AZ, IN, KS, NE, OK and TX.  

FOX RESTAURANT CONCEPTS of Scottsdale, AZ has increased by 1 unit for Sauce from 9 to 10 (11% concept growth) and added a new concept called Little Cleo\’s Seafood Legend.  Other concepts are Blanco Tacos & Tequila (2), Bloom (1), Culinary Dropout (1), Modern Steak (1), Montana Avenue (1), North (6), Olive & Ivy (1), The Arrogant Butcher (1), The Greene House (1), True Food Kitchen (4), Wildflower (1) and Zinburger (3).  Overall company growth is from 32 to 34 (6% growth).  These tend to be family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 250.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $10-$30+.  Catering, banquets and patio seating are available.  Locations are in AZ, CA, CO, KS and TX.

HARDEE\’S based in Carpinteria, CA (founded 1960) has increased by 19 units, from 1917 to 1936 (1% growth).  These are quick serve burger restaurants with seating for around 80.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12.  Locations are in AL, AR, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, VA, WI, WV and WY.

California-based SLATER\’S 50/50 BURGERS BY DESIGN (founded 2009) has increased by 2 units, from 4 to 6 (50% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $10-$30+, with full bar service.  Seating is for around 100.  All locations are in CA.

Beverly Hills, CA-based SPRINKLES CUPCAKES (founded 2005) has increased by 2 units, from 10 to 12 (20% growth).  This fast casual cupcake cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner hours, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  The stores have limited seating and offer catering services.  Trading areas are AZ, CA, DC, IL, NY, and TX.
Springfield, MO-based

ANDY\’S FROZEN CUSTARD (founded 1987) has increased by 6 units, from 16 to 22 (38% growth) and entered into OK.  These quick serve ice cream shops are open for lunch and dinner hours, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Limited seating is available.  About half the units are franchised.  Trading areas are AR, IL, MO, OK, and TX.

New York, NY-based DALLAS BBQ (founded 1959) has increased by 1 unit for the Dallas BBQ concept, from 9 to 10 (11% concept growth).  The company also operates Tony\’s Di Napoli (2).  Overall company increase was from 11 to 12 (9% company growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30+ per person check average. Locations have full bar and seat about 200.  Online ordering, catering, delivery, and private party services are all offered.  All the restaurants are in NY.  We featured this company on 2/5/13 (10% growth).

Beachwood, OH-based HYDE PARK RESTAURANT GROUP (founded 1988) has increased by 1 unit, from 15 to 16 (7% growth) with the addition of a new concept called ML Tavern.  Other company concepts are Eleven (1), Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse (13), and Jekyll\’s Kitchen (1).  The restaurants are upscale steak and seafood concepts, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $15-$50+, with full bar and average seating for about 175.  Catering and banquet services are available.  Restaurants are located in FL, MI, NY, and OH.  We last wrote about this company on 2/19/13 (7% growth).

Encino, CA-based MENCHIE\’S FROZEN YOGURT (founded 2007) has increased by 125 units, from 251 to 376 (50% growth) and entered into AL, DC, MB, NB, PQ, SK, Bahrain, China, India, Israel, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the UAE.  This quick serve frozen yogurt shop is open for lunch and dinner hours, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  The shops seat about 30.  All are franchised and trade in AB, AK, AL, AZ, BC, CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, HI, IA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MB, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NB, NC, NJ, NL, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, ON, OR, PA, PQ, SC, SK, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, and 12 other countries worldwide.  We last wrote about this company on 6/19/12 (154% growth).
